Fundraising was in full swing at the 4th Focus Group Annual Golf Day

On Friday, 20th September 2024, Focus Group hosted its 4th Annual Golf Day at the beautiful East Sussex National Golf Resort, where the sun shone brightly (after a brief storm) on a wonderful day of generosity and community spirit. The event contributed an impressive £42,000 for Focus Foundation, bringing together supporters and partners to make a real difference for grassroots charities.

Former Arsenal footballer and mental health advocate Paul Merson was a special guest at the event, inspiring attendees with his story. He was joined by Rachel Swann from Grassroots Suicide Prevention and Alice Caldecott and Sam Webster from Team Domenica. Both charities are previous beneficiaries of Focus Foundation, and they shared heartfelt insights into the impact of the Foundation’s support.

Alice Caldecott from Team Domenica expressed her gratitude, noting how the generosity of the day will fund a full year of café training for two young people with learning disabilities, helping them take their first steps into employment. “We were truly touched by the kindness in the room,” Alice said. “Meeting Paul Merson was such a highlight of an already incredible evening.”

More than 80 guests enjoyed a round of golf in the picturesque surroundings, reflecting the sense of connection and community that Focus Foundation strives to create. The event offered a perfect opportunity for attendees from across the UK business community to come together in support of the Foundation’s work, which focuses on empowering local charities and changing lives.

Capturing the event’s special moments was a photographer from Esteem, a Shoreham-based charity. Thanks to a grant from Focus Foundation, Esteem has been able to build a creative suite for young adults to develop their creative skills and grow their networks—a wonderful example of the lasting impact the Foundation has on local communities.

Chris Goodman, Co-founder & Trustee of Focus Foundation, expressed his appreciation for the continued support: “This event has become a highlight of our fundraising calendar, and this year’s golf day was particularly special. We’re so grateful to all our sponsors and everyone who supported us. These funds will go straight to supporting more projects that change lives.”

This year has been a significant one for Focus Foundation, as it celebrates reaching a major milestone: awarding over £500,000 in grants since its launch in 2021. These grants support underprivileged children and young people, mental health initiatives, and local community projects across the UK. The Foundation’s journey so far has been a testament to the power of generosity and the shared goal of making a positive impact.
